Lighting Fixtures In Design
Lighting is a key element of home design. With new materials and technologies a plethora of new products have become available for contemporary home decorating. But before you breakout your wallet, it’s smart to review the different lighting products on the market that can bring that sense of warmth and comfort to your home. Perhaps the most exciting advance in lighting products are LEDs. Light emitting diodes (LEDs) have become a popular choice in recent years and they’ve quickly increased their market share. LEDs are now often the first choice home decorators, builders, or the weekend DIYer consider.
Costs and Economy of LED Lighting
LEDs flexibility, cost, and economy can offer an outstanding alternative to other lighting products. They have been replacing standard incandescent and florescent lighting in residential construction as well as commercial. They are energy efficient and more compact compared to traditional lighting fixtures and require less effort to install. Another advantage of LED lighting is that they produce very little heat so they require less shielding and insulation when installed in walls and ceilings.
Advantages & Disadvantages of LED Lighting
However it’s not all roses with LED lighting. They are not as bright as traditional incandescent lighting The typical LED light produces approximately 80 lumens of light compared to 900 lumens for a standard 60 watt incandescent light bulb, or about 1/10 the brightness. To compensate for lower output, most LED lighting fixtures contain groups of LEDs, and as a result the initial unit costs are often higher.
Another advantage of LED lighting is that they are available in colors, not just simple white. Popular colors include blue, red, green, and amber. The choice of colors means more opportunities for creative design.
